Race and Food Series

Race and Food Series

Starting in fall 2018, hua foundation curated a ticketed event series that brought people together over a shared meal and conversation exploring how our experiences of race, identity, appropriation, racism, and more intersect with what fuels our days and lies at the heart of our homes: food.

The Race and Food Series convened audiences over dinner, drinks, and appetizers to hear from special guests, engage with each other, and consider what it takes to move towards a more inclusive, equitable local landscape. The series featured the work of industrial designer and former Emily Carr instructor-turned Pratt Institute professor Amanda Huynh, the writing of Globe & Mail food writer and author Ann Hui, and contributions of Amelia Huang and Andy Yan, civic issues enthusiasts who grew up in and around family restaurant kitchens.
